It was previously distributed in a printed version and published bi-weekly. Ultra nationalistic movement from Serbia stopped the opening of the Kosovo artist’s exhibition in Belgrade

Belgrade, 9 Feb - Exhibition "Exception / Contemporary arts scene of Priština", that was planed to be exhibited in Kontekst Gallery in Centre for Culture Old Town in Belgrade from 7 th of February until 15 th of February, was closed because of police valuation that safety of visitors and organizers was jeopardized. Therefore exhibition will not be opened in planned terms. During the opening of the exhibition organized group stopped opening of the exhibition by violent means and also destroyed artistic work "Face to face" by artist Dren Maliqi.

A European strategy on the Roma

Brussels, 2 Feb - European Parliament resolution of 31 January 2008 on a European strategy on the Roma:             

            The European Parliament,

            -        having regard to Articles 3, 6, 7, 29 and 149 of the EC Treaty, which commit the Member States to ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens,

MEPs highlight "ghettoisation" of Roma and call for EU anti-discrimination measures

Brussels, 31 Jan - The European Parliament adopted a report warning of the risks of anti-Gypsyism promoted by extremists and calling for fresh efforts to integrate Roma through positive measures in housing, health, education and employment. Of the 12 to 15 million Roma living in Europe, about 10 million live in EU countries. The majority became EU citizens after the 2004 and 2007 enlargements. Yet MEPs believe Roma communities still suffer clear discrimination.

No Fortress Europe on the Erased Residents of Slovenia

AI Slovenia: open letter for Janša as anniversary of the erasure is approaching

Ljubljana, 22 Jan - February 26 2008 will mark 16th anniversary of the unlawful erasure of the group of citizens from ex Yugoslavia republics from the registry of permanent residents. In view of this 18 leading representatives of Amnesty International sections in EU countries who met in Ljubljana for a two day meeting signed an open letter addressed to Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša.

 

New web portal on situation of Roma in and from Kosovo

As you certainly know Roma have become a collateral damage not only of the Kosovo conflict, but of all the wars and conflicts which ensued from the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia.

 

On issues raised during the recent debate regarding European Roma strategy held in EP

Budapest, 18 Jan - Brussels must actively promote Roma integration, says Liberal MEP. Why has the European Commission so far failed to do anything to promote Roma integration?

Viktoria Mohacsi, a liberal MEP who is herself Roma, has put that question to Brussels along with the demand that the EC sets up an integration monitoring and co-ordination body, said national daily Nepszava on Friday.
