Ljubljana, 21 Apr - On April 16, 2008 a Communication Intervention was started in Ljubljana with a purpose to encourage resolving of the status of erased. The Intervention is titled <izbrisan16let.si> which means ‘erased for 16 years’ (16 years ago 18.305 people were erased from the register of permanent residence; this violation has still not been remedied). The Intervention was designed by Studio Poper with partners Amnesty International Slovenia, Peace Institute and Municipality of Ljubljana.

The intervention includes uniquely placed billboards on the façade of the ‘Hribarjeva hisa’ building and on previously unused glass surfaces of bus stops and other communication tools (such as silhouettes in store windows, stickers on traffic light posts, and activation cards). Through these tools intimate fates of people marked by the removal from registry and its consequences will speak as social awareness messengers to the passer-bys and encourage them to reflect on the issue and to get involved as active, responsible, and sentiment citizens. Exclusively for this occasion, the www.izbrisan16let.si, www.izbrisana16let.si web sites have been developed where the issue and the chronology of the removal from the Registry as well as the entire <izbrisan16let.si> campaign is presented; the purpose of the web site is also to encourage public debate in the form of comments and frequent questions and answers regarding this issue.
